New design line produced using by Super Light Luxury

Solomon Alsberg Ltd. announces a start of production of Super Light Luxury technology-made wheels in the beginning of 2011. Having considered all previous publications regarding Solomon Alsberg Ltd. we have decided to get more details about the company and their new line of wheels. The article presented here has a view of “question-answer” for your convenience.

Q: What’s the major difference between the wheels produced under Super Light Luxury technology and Eco Super Light wheels?
A: it is a known fact that the strained aluminum possesses the structure with the sufficient margin of damping properties. That’s especially true for forgings where the texture of deformation matches the contour of the product. With this fact, we have designed a manufacturing technique for production of wheels with improved controlled damping properties. Those are needed to restrain the elastic strain appeared during the use of that product. Speaking in simple as to the cars – when your car hits some road obstruction (e.g. holes, bumps, etc.) it is affected with microimpacts from the road irregularities. Car buffer system needs some time to respond and sometimes it doesn’t have any time for surface leveling. Our Super Light Luxury wheels capture a part of impact energy and allow prolonging the effect of the impact itself on the suspension system. According to the analysis and testing we made, impact energy absorption by the disk makes up to 10 percent of the total impact energy. All that gives a tangible driving comfort.

Q: So, this manufacturing technique can be used for forged wheels only?
A: Basically, you are right. This technology was designed no mere for forged blanks but for the blanks with a certain preformed build-up of metal fibers. So that the fibers do not get undercut by machining but do get integrated into the wheel design.

Q: So, what’s the difference between forged wheels and cast wheels? Cast wheels in whole volume seem to have no undercut fibers in their structure either?
A: I would say it again – a metallurgical structure of cast wheels does not have a clear cut texture. It can be found in blanks (wheels) with the strain only. So, the cast wheels cannot be produced with the sufficient function of impact energy dumping as is true for the forged wheels with the controlled structure.

Q: Are there any other advantages (except for the comfort) of the wheels produced with Super Light Luxury technology?
A: Yes, of course, those are all major advantages of the forged wheels, i.e. up to 10-12 percent fuel economy which means CO2 reduction, improved car acceleration (7.26 percent faster) and deceleration (brake path length - 9 percent less) performance due to reduction of car unsprung mass. The driver gets a better road control. In our opinion, the most advanced choice is to use forged wheels for hybrid and electric engine cars as the main part of the stored energy is consumed at acceleration. Forged wheels allow more efficient reduction of energy consumption just  at acceleration point. It seems to be simple and obvious solution for improvement of electric- and hybrid engine upstroke.
In terms of safety during driving, forged wheels are the best choice for the driver. We have clear experience from one our customer that at the same road at the same car Porsche Cayenne Turbo S and at the same driving conditions had an accident: customer using original equipped car had an incursion with pit with sharp edges (this pit is similar to the open draw-well). The incursion was so strong that customer had broken tyres, rims, chassis (front right side at the car) and brake; see Fig. 1.
After that customer restored the car and purchased from our company a set of wheels with P-I design in size 9x20 inches and three months later had absolutely the same accident at the same road with the same pit. We were surprised but the accident conditions were totally the same. The most important fact here is customer’s car was absolutely free from any damage after this collision. All impact energy and negative points of the accident was compensated by forged rim only; see Fig. 2. That is rim was broken but customer and car including chassis elements and brake system were without any damages. For this customer we manufactured one new rim only based on new order and car is ready for driving. This case is a obvious example of forged wheel benefits

Q: Speaking frankly, do you think there are any points that could be negative for the client when using your Super Light Luxury made wheels? Let’s say, their price?
A: The only factor limiting broad distribution of Super Light Luxury wheels is their relatively high price. Besides we should take into consideration our primary audience – owners of quite high powered, expensive cars consuming a lot of fuel. As a rule, such people care about both financial and environmental aspects in all they do. Therefore, in their lives they always try to get the maximum, get the best and the most effective things for their cars as well. Reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emission they let everyone see that the powerful and tuned car can and must be sufficient. It can also be noted that the forged wheel is not a bulk product. We produce wheels in small batches only as for tuning companies and individual clients. Each set of wheels and each wheel itself are produced customized after all details of the order are approved by the customer.

Q: Does that mean you can produce a single wheel where the customer requires doing so?
A: Yes, of course. We can do that.

Q: Could you list your major customers?
A: Primarily, our customers are: tuning companies producing the cars in limited series, and individuals.

Q: Please tell us about the procedure of order making.
A: The order can be made through our internet site (www.sa-group.biz) or by simply calling us. The phone number is as indicated at our web-site. You can discuss all details of the order and promptly provide you with all information needed. Our company focuses on full detailing of the wheel theme for every client – we both provide graphics of the wheel on the customer’s car and fulfill customer’s wishes related to modification of the wheel finish and accessories. We do the best for the customer to feel comfortable when discussing the order.

Q: What sizes of the wheel can be produced using a new Super Light Luxury manufacturing technique?
A: 19-inch wheels, and the diameter can be increased up to 22 inches.

Q: Do you have special projects?
A: We do have special projects fairly often. Among them: armored vehicle wheels maintaining the driving performance while the mass increases; the wheels containing elements of corporate advertising such as engraving of the logo or the name; new car prototypes, etc.

Q: Have you ever had the orders for some unusual design?
A: Yes, we have. We have permanent orders for the wheels with Itaka design; we worked on the project of the one-spoke wheel.

Q: How do you deal with a subject of customized individual wheel finishing?
A: There is the corporate quality standard according to which the wheel passes a sufficient number of technological levels to guarantee the quality of finishing irrespective of the color scheme. We find it very important to make every customer feel reassured about wheel appearance and quality irrespective of environmental conditions of car usage.

Q: There are the photos of retro-cars at your web-site. Does that mean you can produce wheels for rare cars as well?
A: Yes, we can do that using the picture or the photograph of the old car. It is common knowledge that eventually the wheels and the tires of such cars outwear. So we have a partial production of wheels for such clients. Moreover, design of the wheels produced has the utmost look of original “old” ones.

Q: Can your wheels compete with magnesium-alloy wheels?
A: As a rule, magnesium-alloy wheels are used for reduction of unsprung weight of the car only. Our wheels both of Eco Super Light line and regular mass-production ones are highly competitive, and the 19” wheels (and larger) are even less weighted than the cast counterparts.

Q: The last question – what projects do you work on currently? What products can you demonstrate in the nearest future?
A: We plan to launch some other designs of Eco Super Light wheels, with the minimum weight and increased diameter (up to 22 inches) in the nearest future. Moreover, we shall continue working on integrating our wheels and Run Flat Tyres in order to decrease the unsprung weight of the car.

Best regards
